ABOUT
Marlen Bieber will be a scholarship holder of the Talent Circle of the Deutsche Oper Berlin starting with the 2026/27 season. The mezzo-soprano is a finalist of the German Music Competition 2026 and was awarded a concert scholarship. At the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino 2024, she received the Eva Kleinitz Award. She is also a finalist of the International Robert Schumann Competition 2024 and a prizewinner of the DEBUT Classical Singing Competition 2022. Bieber is a scholarship holder of the Festival of Young Voices, the Richard Wagner Association Chemnitz, and the Festival Musique et Vin au Clos Vougeot. From 2021 to 2026, she was a soloist at the Opera Chemnitz, where she performed roles including Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Muse/Niklas in The Tales of Hoffmann, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, the Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen, Flora and Annina in La Traviata, Mercédès in Carmen, Giovanna and Maddalena in Rigoletto, as well as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel. The latter role was recorded in 2021 by Rondeau and released on DVD. She has also appeared as a guest at venues such as Musiktheater im Revier, Staatsoperette Dresden, and Theater Plauen-Zwickau. A major passion of the mezzo-soprano is concert singing. She has performed under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann and Joseph Bastian, with orchestras such as the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Komische Oper, the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, the Robert Schumann Philharmonic, and the Junge Philharmonie Wien. She has appeared at venues including the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Arnold Schönberg Center Vienna, as well as at the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks and the Dresden Music Festival. She collaborates regularly with the internationally renowned Lied pianist Daniel Heide. The Festival Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot presented the mezzo-soprano as a “Jeune Talent” in 2025 in several concerts, including performances with Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Marlen Bieber studied voice from 2016 to 2021 at the University of Music in Dresden. She received further valuable artistic guidance in the Lied class of Kammersänger Prof. Olaf Bär and in numerous masterclasses with, among others, Kammersängerin Brigitte Fassbaender, Hedwig Fassbender, and Jukka Rasilainen.
