ABOUT
Marlen Bieber was a member of the newly established Opera Studio at Chemnitz Opera during the 2020/21 season. Since 2021, she has been a soloist with the company, where she has appeared in roles such as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Muse/Niklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, the Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen, Flora and Annina in La Traviata, Mercédès in Carmen, Maddalena in Rigoletto, and Hänsel in Hänsel and Gretel. She also performed the role of Hänsel in the DVD recording released in 2021 by Theater Chemnitz in collaboration with Rondeau Productions. During her studies, the mezzo-soprano gained her first stage experience through several engagements, including performances at the Staatsoperette Dresden. Another great passion of the mezzo-soprano is concert singing. With remarkable stylistic versatility, she performs a wide range of repertoire spanning sacred music, symphonic works, and contemporary compositions. During her studies, she performed regularly under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, primarily singing the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. Highlights of her concert career include appearances at the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna, the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks, and the Dresden Music Festival. She has performed with ensembles such as the Münchner Symphoniker the Chamber Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, the Robert Schumann Philharmonie, and the Junge Philharmonie Wien. In 2025, the Festival Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot presented her as a “Jeune Talent” in several concerts, including performances with the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne under Joseph Bastian and alongside Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Marlen Bieber is a finalist of the German Music Competition 2026, where she was awarded a concert scholarship. At the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino 2024, she received the Eva Kleinitz Award. She is also a finalist of the International Robert Schumann Competition 2024 and a prizewinner of the DEBUT Classical Singing Competition 2022. Bieber is a scholarship holder of the Festival der jungen Stimmen, the Richard Wagner Association Chemnitz, and the Festival Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot. Marlen Bieber completed her music-focused secondary education at the Clara-Wieck-Gymnasium and the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau. From 2016 to 2021, she studied voice at the Dresden University of Music. She received further important artistic inspiration in the Lied class of Kammersänger Olaf Bär as well as in numerous masterclasses, including with Brigitte Fassbaender, Hedwig Fassbender, and Jukka Rasilainen. She currently works closely in private study with Lucja Zarzycka and Eckehard Stier.
